Preventing falls in the elderly: the PEM-ES method

Managers
Pierre-Louis Bernard (MCF - HDR)

Training objectives

The training aims to master the basics of gerontology, assessment methodologies and educational interventions such as PEM and Health Education (HE) for the elderly.

Improving functional capacities and quality of life through motor activity combined with health education is a central objective of gerontological recommendations. These practices will limit the effects of age. A large number of studies carried out on various populations of autonomous, frail or declining individuals demonstrate the potential for improving osteoarticular, muscular, postural, cardiovascular, metabolic, behavioral, cognitive and psychological functions.

With a view to improving health and preventing the effects of aging on functional and psychosocial capacities, the general aim of the method is to combine an adapted physical activity program of the "Posture-Equilibration-Motricity" (PEM) type with a Health Education (HE) approach. There are four operational objectives:

  • optimize autonomy,
  • develop functional and balancing skills,
  • restore confidence in motor skills,
  • improve health-promoting behaviors.

Targeted skills
The following skills are targeted as a result of the training:

  • Basic knowledge of the "bio-psycho-social" determinants of aging and dependent populations.
  • Basic knowledge of motor evaluation methodologies; application to balance and musculo-articular functions in senior citizens.
  • Mastery of the pedagogical treatment of posture-balance-motricity motor situations,

Psychological support for injured athletes: from prevention to return to the field

From prevention to return to the field

Injured athletes may experience psychological difficulties that cannot always be taken into account in the context of their support, which is focused on training and performance optimization, or on their state of health. This issue is being raised more and more in sports organizations, but to date professionals deplore the lack of training (no DU at present).

Training objectives

Understand the psychological challenges posed by an injury and take this dimension into account when supporting the athlete, in order to encourage an optimal return to competitive activity, in conjunction with the entire staff around the athlete (medical, technical, physical and mental trainers).

The training will cover the phases classically identified :

  • prevention (protective versus risk factors)
  • managing the injury episode (listening phase)
  • education/rehabilitation phase
  • return to activity (management of re-blessing anxiety in particular).

Skills acquired on completion of training

  • Minimum mastery of qualitative tools (conducting and analyzing semi-structured interviews) and quantitative tools (administering and interpreting questionnaires specific to the topic)
  • support techniques (mental imagery, relaxation, active listening, goal setting)
  • how to set up a follow-up.

Club management

Coordinators:
Anne-Laure TARDY, PRCE
Arnaud Roussel, PAST

This University diploma is part of the drive to bring the University and the professional world closer together, and more specifically to acquire knowledge of club management. Co-constructed by the UFR Staps, the continuing education department and the Comiti company, this diploma is open to students with a baccalaureate or equivalent. Primarily designed to enhance the skills of volunteers, the diploma is also open to employees of sports organizations and top-level athletes wishing to prepare for their career transition. In this context, the diploma is a perfect complement to a French state diploma.
It is also possible to access this diploma via a VAP.

This approach is based on a number of observations:

  • The professionalization of clubs over the last few years
  • Club managers find it difficult to keep up with changes in the sports code
  • The difficulty for clubs to diversify their sources of funding

Our approach to professionalization is based on the following logic:

  • 100% online training, so you can follow the course at your own pace.
  • 21 course modules divided into 9 teaching units.
  • The use of operational digital tools
  • Validation of prior learning through continuous assessment. Courses are available online on the University of Montpellier platform.

Training objectives

In the context of the professionalization of sports associations and the decline in the number of volunteers, we need to promote the value of volunteer skills, and support the growth of employment by combining Ministry of Sports diplomas (Brevet d'Etat, Diplômes d'Etat, Diplômes d'Etat Spécialisés) and university degrees.

The "Club Management" University Diploma and training approach meet these needs.

Skills

This diploma enables learners to develop the following skills
