Incoming students in exchange programs / Venir étudier en programme d'échanges

Exchange programs enable students registered at a foreign university to continue their studies at the University of Montpellier for a maximum period of one year, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the program. The period of study at the university must be an integral part of the student's program of study at their home university. It must be recognized and validated as part of their curriculum.

At your home university :

  • You must be enrolled at a university with which the University of Montpellier has a student exchange partnership.
  • You need to contact the international relations office at your home university to submit your application. This office will give you all the information you need about exchange programs.
  • You must be nominated by your university. Once you have been selected, your university will send us your name, contact details, field of study and length of stay.

Exchange periods

  • 1st semester (autumn semester): early September to mid-January
  • 2nd semester (spring semester): mid-January to end of June

You must choose courses that correspond to the curriculum you are following at your home university, in agreement with your academic supervisor, before you leave. If you pass the exams, these courses must be validated by your home university on your return.

  • If you are coming under the Erasmus+ program, you must have a total of 30 ECTS credits per semester.
Students from non-European universities are not required to have 30 ECTS credits.

The vast majority of courses are taught in French (with the exception of courses on learning other languages). You must have the language level required by the UFR STAPS: Level B2.

  • You must list the courses you have chosen on the learning contract, indicating the exact title and number of credits.
  • Your training contract must be completed and signed by you and your training advisor. It must be sent to UFR STAPS at the same time as your application file.
  • DATASHEET 2022-2023

Modification of the initial Learning Agreement

  • Sometimes, once you're at the UFR STAPS, your study contract may change. These changes are generally due to scheduling incompatibilities (courses given at the same time). You will make these changes with the agreement of the teachers responsible for your STAPS studies and your home university. All changes must be approved by the teachers who signed your initial study contract.

As an exchange student, you have certain obligations

  • Remain registered at your home university during your stay at UFR STAPS de Montpellier.
  • Obtain approval from your home university for the study plan you wish to follow at UFR STAPS. Your study plan must be detailed on a Learning Agreement and bear three signatures: yours, that of your academic advisor at your university and that of the academic advisor at UFR STAPS Montpellier.
  • Minimum B2 level in French.
  • Respect the deadlines for sending or transmitting documents requested by the Bureau des Relations Internationales (BRI).
  • Report to the International Relations Office as soon as you arrive and before you leave Montpellier, once you have completed your exams.
  • Are you coming to Montpellier, Nîmes or Perpignan to study at a higher education institution as part of an individual mobility or exchange program?
