The Scientific Commission issues opinions on the scientific policy of the UFR STAPS, particularly with regard to the recruitment of teacher-researchers, temporary teaching and research assistants (ATER), proposals for visiting professors, and authorizations to defend research degrees. The Scientific Commission's proposals must then be approved by the Board of Management.

The High-Level Commission is responsible for examining applications from students wishing to obtain High-Level Sports Status. These proposals are then examined and ratified by a central commission at University level. Currently, around a hundred students at the UFR STAPS benefit from this status.

The commission is also responsible for monitoring these athletes, drawing up their schooling contracts, and identifying their special needs.

The Active Orientation Commission is responsible for assisting high school and university students in their career choices. Its attributes go far beyond the official active orientation protocol for high school students. Originally set up to help unsuccessful LIcence 1 students choose the right course, it now has a number of other missions:

• Informing high school students about training opportunities in the sports and physical activity professions
• Guidance for students who fail to complete a semester at university
• Student guidance at key stages of their academic career (L3-M1 transition, M1-M2 transition)
